Women and Cats
It can be something of a stereotype but there’s no denying that there is a connection between women and cats. Cats are inherently sensual and feminine, but is there more to it than that? A recent survey studying the relationship between cat owners and their cats had a huge response from women – 96 percent per female cat owners. However this doesn’t mean that men don’t like cats – just that women are more likely to talk about them. I know plenty of male cat lovers.
One myth the survey did blow out the water was that cats are owned mainly by old, spinsters as fifty per cent of respondents were married or living with someone and a third were under thirty years of age.
So what does attract women to cats? Perhaps it’s that they are the perfect silent partner. Around two-thirds of the respondents said their cat could sense when they were ill or upset and seventy percent said their feline friend had comforted them in emotional times. However fifty per cent said that their cat had ignored them or was dismissive with them on occasions but they couldn’t help but keep going back for more feline affection. Could it be that cats have taken on the male ‘treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen’ role?
