Which bowl?
Feeding time is likely to be your kitty’s most favourite time in the day. After you’ve hummed and ahhed about what to feed your cat, you also need to give some consideration to the bowl you present the food in. It’s not as cut and dry as you might think:
Plastic Bowls:
Plastic bowls are readily available and tend to be popular because they are cheap, hard wearing and can be kept clean easily. However, a word of caution! Some cats are allergic to plastic and get what is known as ‘feline chin acne.’ This nasty condition presents itself as spots and ulcers and can in extreme cases cause hair loss. Another issue is that plastic scratches easily and bacteria can set in.
Ceramic Dishes:
Ceramic dishes are sturdier and won’t slip around the floor. There are a variety of designs and some companies even offer personalized bowls. However watch out for chips and breakages.
Stainless Steel Dishes:
Stainless steel dishes are a good choice as they won’t break and can be cleaned at very high temperatures to kill germs. Some come with a non slip rubber grip also.
Double Bowls:
Double bowls enable you to hold both water and food but unfortunately you often get food in the water this way. It’s also a bit tricky changing the water when you’ve got food in it!
