Tips for Boarding Your Cat
If you’re still looking forward to your holiday and have decided to put your cat in boarding for the holidays here are some top tips to ensure you pick the best place:
Visit and get a tour of the establishment checking out all the facilities
Look at the design. Is there a separate sleeping area and a safety run? Is it fully heated, dry and well lit? Are hygiene standards high and is the access to fresh air and daylight? Is there a gap or a solid barrier between each unit?
Do the current residents look happy campers?
Make sure staff take a healthy interest in your cat – do they ask about habits, medical history, likes and dislikes, your vet’s name and contact details?
If you cat has special requirements such as dietary requirements or needs to take medication on a daily basis check that the staff are willing to cater to the cats needs.
If the cattery is a good one it’ll book up fast so book early
If the establishment is reputable they will want to see up to date vaccination certificates.
Check out that the cattery is licensed by the local authority
If cats and dogs are kept on the same site check how far apart they are kept. If your cat isn’t used to being away from home being housed next to yapping dogs will stress your cat out.
And finally does the owner seem to be caring and well informed about cats?
