The Persian Beauty

This beautiful long haired cat is believed to have originated from Persia.  The first recorded Persians’ or Longhairs as they used to be called, were brought into Italy and France around 1620.  It is believed they hit the UK soon after were they became popular with royal figures such as Queen Victoria and Edward VII.

Of all the cat breeds the Persian remains to this day the most popular across the world.  However this beautiful feline is high maintenance with a coat that requires daily grooming and care.  The coat can become very matted if not combed daily and will soon need clipping if neglected.  If you do need to clip the coat find a fully qualified groomer to do the job – do not attempt to clip the cat yourself.  Their coats come in an array of colours such as solid colours, smokey, tabby and shaded colours.

The breed has susceptibility to polycystic kidney disease and is also prone to retained testicles so get your cat checked out regularly at the vets.

As a personality the Persian is nicknamed the ‘Lounge Lizard’.  The cat is a laid back people watcher!  The most sedentary of the cats they are also most accepting of other feline additions to the house and in the outdoors are a an expert hunter.
