Say ‘I Love You’ in Cat Language
Last night after a long stressful day at work and the flurry of activity that ensues when I get home from work – make the tea, feed Tashi, my shih tzu and Tikka, my cat, tidy up, a quick dog walk – it was at last time to relax and chill out. It was a dreadful evening. The rain was lashing against the window and wind howled and echoed strangely down the chimney but myself, Tashi and Tikka were safe and warm inside. Tashi was laid out snoozing on his bean bag, I was lying on the couch reading and Tikka sat on his usual perch on top of the arm chair in a sphinx like pose.
It was then that Tikka say ‘I love you’ in cat language. It’s a cat body movement that often gets missed but is one of the most hypnotically relaxing ones. Tikka sat there lying hunched up, with that slow, easy cat smile and blinked slowly and indulgently at me. This slow blink is one to cherish. It says I am secure. I am content. If you are ever lucky enough to get a slow blink off your cat return it. Slow blinking is a way of showing mutual appreciation and is a beautiful way of communicating with your cat how much you love him.
