Regular Check Ups for Your Cat

Cats are quite resilient creatures and won’t complain in the same way a dog would if they are ill.  You need to look out for the signs. This is usually a drastic change in behaviour such as trying to hide away or becoming overly clingy.  You may also notice a change in temperament.  Your cat may become unusually listless or aggressive towards you.  These can be strong signs that your cat is in pain.  Confusingly a cat will also purr when it is in pain – the only way to know the difference is in the intensity and other signs of distress.

Check your cat for lumps and bumps regularly.  It is easy to miss things hidden under their fur particularly if they are a longhaired cat.  Check along their flank and under their tummy as well as the soft pads of their paws.

If you do notice unusual behaviour and you can’t find an obvious physical cause take your cat to the vets.  Often cats get over looked but as with dogs they need regular check ups to ensure their teeth, coat, eyes and general health is in full working order.  If the vet then finds there is still no obvious issues he or she can advise you how to deal with psychological problems.
