Planning Your Cat Friendly Garden
When thinking of restyling your back garden, spare a thought for your cat. The more you can make the garden an attractive place for your cat to reside in the less likely he will be to roam and put himself at risk from other animals and cars.
Consider carefully the types of plants you put into your garden. Many plants are poisonous to animals and cats are very fond of nibbling on bits of foliage. Do your research on which plants are safe and include grasses such as cat nip which your cat will be very partial to. If you are using flower pots make sure they are heavy enough to stop your cat tipping them over.
Put some posts around the garden so your cat can scratch its claws. This will save your cat defacing any trees in your garden. Make sure there is a shady area in your garden for hot summer days. If the garden is fully exposed to the sun plant some shrubs for your cat to lie under in the midday heat.
Encourage your cat to do his business in your garden by giving him an area. Train him to go there by putting some of his cat litter on the area. Eventually he’ll get the idea.
Build a shed to house any toxin household substances and be careful not to lock him in the by accident!
