The Supreme Cat Show is set to go ahead this month on 22nd November at the Birmingham, NEC.  This is the feline equivalent to the doggy world’s Crufts show.  Cats can qualify to enter by winning at one of the GCCF Championships which run on a yearly basis from June to May.

This exciting event holds a section for new breeds making it a treat to visit.  There is also a category for neutered breeds and also one for non-pedigree so that even the humble moggie gets a chance to shine!  Kitten must be under nine months of age to take part in their category.

If you are looking to buy a kitten then please make your first stop the local cat shelter.  Often they are full up with cats and kittens all longing for a loving home so unless you want a specific breed this should be the place your start your search.  You can feel good that you are helping to keep the cat population under control and that you are providing an otherwise abandoned cat a home.

Old age comes to us all and its no different for your cat.  For you this means taking a bit more time to care and look after your old timer and you should expect to have to visit the vet more often to ensure no niggles turn into major issues.

The major difference you’ll notice in your cat is that they are less mobile that they once were.  This means they’ll be even bigger comfort seekers than before.  They’ll need a cozy, soft area to sleep in away from cold drafts.  This will make sure your cat stays healthy as long as possible.

Well, Bonfire Night is here although if you’re a cat you’d be forgiven for believing it was a month long event!  There have been fireworks exploding around my neighbourhood for a good three weeks already and no doubt they will continue for a few weeks more.

When looking into a cat insurance policy it is essential to do your research.  One of the best things you can do for you and your feline friend is to look in detail into the policies available that will protect your cat’s health and your bank balance in the event of injury or illness.  If you choose not to insure your cat and your cat does fall ill or has an accident you will most certainly be faced with a large bill.

There’s no denying it cats love heat and cosy corners. If there’s a stray sunbeam going you can bet that your cat will find it and enjoy soaking up the warmth, and if there’s a fireplace to be found you’re cat will be there. Now that the winter nights are drawing in and we’re experiencing the first of many chilly evenings to come I’ve definitely noticed a determined need in my cat to seek out warm cosy spots. My friend only commented this morning that she woke up this morning with lovely toasty feet and as she wiped the sleep from her eyes realised it was her cat, Oliver, who had abandoned his usual perch for the cosiness of her bed.

So what exactly is a moggy?  A moggy is a cat that is either cross bred or is a non-pedigree cat.  They simply do not belong to a recognised breed.  Across the globe there are around 100 million cats kept as pets and a huge percentage of those are made up of the humble moggy.  In the early nineteenth century cats were not really kept as pets.  They were working animals kept to keep the rodent population under control.  Good looks weren’t the priority and there wasn’t the same obsession with pure breeds that we have today.  However moggies can be magnificently beautiful cats and shouldn’t be underrated.

Losing a cat is a worrying time but as cats like to wander it can happen from time to time.  Most of the time though your cat has merely been exploring and got themselves locked in somewhere.

Choosing your new cat or kitten’s name is not something to be taken lightly.  It can be a challenging time and I know many a new cat owner that has ran out to the shops and come back laden with baby name books and has scoured the internet for hours looking for inspiration.

Choosing your cat’s name is the first step in your new relationship with your feline bundle but if you initially come up with a blank you will be forgiven as it’s not as easy as it might seem.

There’s no getting round it.  If you’ve chosen to be a cat owner you have a little tiger stalking around your home.  You can remove a cat from the jungle but you will never remove their jungle hunting instincts.  As these beautiful and graceful predators pace and slink around the rooms of your home take time to appreciate these wonderful creations of nature and recognise that we must allow their ancient instincts to stalk and hunt to express themselves in play.
