I have recently purchased 2 gold fish called Jaws & Albert and have struggled finding a tank with a pump on which is not large, when I finally found one at Pets at Home called Aqua Box 17 the filter just hit the fish and push them around so I took them out and put them in a small plastic tank with no filter..
We took the tank back to Pets at Home and they advised they would not refund us our money as the tank was used and this was after explaining the problem after they advised the tank would be fine for our fish…
In future I would go to your local garden centre pet section as they have been the most helpful.

One of the strangest pets that can be owned is a parrot. Parrots are a type of bird which can somehow manage to mimic the human speech. Whilst most birds are well known for making a lot of high pitched noises, parrots can mimic what we say. One of the most famous sayings, of which a parrot has said, is ‘Polly want a cracker’? Parrots have been used in films, such as Pirates of the Caribbean, due to the humour which can be seen from them. Parrots can range in size and colour, though the most popular is the medium sized parrots, who have large beaks and red coloured wings.

Adopting animals is usually a compassionate move. Advertisements everyday show unwanted pets, un-owned pets or pets that need a home. This can then lead to adoption for those pets, where people may believe it is a cute animal, or that the animal deserves more than its current way of life it has. The problem with adopting an animal is its learnt values are never known, and that it’s aggression or behaviour could be a problem. As an advantage, the pet could be happy with its new owners, and show love and loyalty, which most owners look for in their animals.

Pets keep us company. Most people, at least once in their lives, will own a pet, or pets. People like having animals as it is something else to look after, as well as another member of the family. Some pets show more loyalty and compassion then others, though all pets share the same needs, which include: food, drink, shelter, love and their own items. Food and drink go without saying; if a pet doesn’t receive these then they will starve or dehydrate which can lead to death. Shelter is an important factor as leaving a pet outside all of its life will mean it could die of pneumonia, starvation or other methods. Any creature needs love, though some are much simpler than others. Love means affection, care and attention. Their own items refers to their own play toys, ‘presents’: basically anything that the pet can enjoy using.

There is always a question concerning which type of dog is better, a small dog, or a large dog. This is a tough question, as almost all dogs are similar. Dogs are referred to as ‘men’s best friend’, and this doesn’t go without any merit. A dog is loyal to its owners (if treated well) and can be a shoulder lean on in good or bad times, and the more intelligent dog, even sympathy can be shown to its owners. Bigger dogs like Labradors, Alsatians, and Saint Bernard’s are usually the more affectionate of dogs, whereas smaller dogs, like terriers are usually more demanding, but also show affection on occasion. Usually the amount of affection a dog shows is mirrored in the way that it is brought up by its owners.

When taking on a pet, one has to consider its past. Baby pets are the easiest to look after as you bring them up from scratch, being there with them from early on gives a good bond between the owner and the pet. Owning a pet which was originally from the wild is always a dangerous bet. Certain countries, man-eating animals are taken on as pets, including: lions, crocodiles and other large beasts. The problem owning a wild animal as a pet is the fact that it has learnt its set values in the wild. If the animal was hungry, would it understand it is owned by a human, and just simply not attack?

There are some key signs to look out for if you suspect your cat is not happy. Firstly look at their coat – if it’s dull and unkempt the cat isn’t grooming which is a telltale sign that he is down in the dumps. It is also unusual for your cat to be inactive, sleeping more than usual or to have suddenly changed his routine. Another sign is loss of appetite.

Cats are staunchly territorial creatures and this doesn’t just relate to places and objects. It can also relate to their owners. This has never been so highlighted than over the past six months with my own cat who has really made a point of showing all the members of my household who is boss.

My partner shook his head in disbelief last night as I drew up a list of presents and there at the bottom were a selection of cat names – that of my friends cat’s Cleo and Oliver. ‘You must be joking!’ he cried incredulously. ‘Not at all,’ I responded with a serious look. ‘I buy them a present every year. And Tikka (my cat) get’s one from them!.’ With another bemused look my partner walked away shaking his head muttering something about ‘madness’ and ‘he’d ‘heard it all now.’
