Life Insurance for Cats

Buying insurance is a way of life these days.  You’ve insurance for your home, car, life, employment, and your washing machine to your i-pod!  The list is endless.  However it is amazing how many cat owners forget to insure their feline friend!

Now in the same way you want to cover yourself with life insurance to protect yourself in times of emergency, so should you view insurance for your cat.  Cats are intrepid creatures, adventuring at the drop of a hat.  The outdoors is to your kitty, as the jungle is to Indiana Jones!  These creatures are magnets for scuffles and scrapes so a good pet insurance is essential if you don’t want to mount up some hefty vet bills.

My own cat, a ginger Tom called Tikka, managed to get his tail trapped on one of his trips out into wide yonder.  After valiant efforts by the vet to save his tail over a couple of months it resulted in him having to get half his tail amputated.  By the end of this episode Tikka’s misadventure had cost over £300.00.  Luckily we were insured so I got my money back.

Now when I listen to other cat owners my £300.00 for Tikka’s tail pales into insignificance with some cats and their mishaps running up into thousands!

You also need to insure your cat against developing any illnesses that may need treatment in the future.  Again those that don’t insure their pet can get caught out later on and the price can be high.  You never know what the future holds so be prepared.

Check out good insurance companies initially via the net.  Use a couple of the comparison sites to find one that meets with your financial needs but also covers your kitty appropriately.  Watch out for those insurance companies that won’t insure your cat once he or she starts getting a bit grey round the whiskers.  Good insurance companies will see you through into their golden years.

Also check that they cover illnesses that cats are traditionally prone to such as allergies and hair loss and that the list of possible cat mishaps is extensive.  Some examples are ingesting foreign bodies, bone fractures and accidents.  You also want an insurance premium that covers you if your cat gets lost or runs away.  It can be very costly searching for a runaway cat.  Most good policies now include cover for advertisements and notices.

So make sure you carry out a good, qualitative search and don’t just focus on the price.  Make sure your getting value for your money and that your cat is as well protected as he or she can be.
