Kittenish Playtime

Cat and especially kittens love to play.  Single cats definitely need to be given toys to relieve the boredom and to discourage them from playing with your own belongings.  It is true that when you have two cats living together they are more likely to be playful whereas single cats can become old and grouchy before their time, sleeping all day and not showing much kittenish behaviour at all.

To keep your cat young at heart buy him some toys and play with him.  There are many toys available on the market but unlike children’s toys there are no safety regulations to ensure they are safe for cats so check out that they don’t have any small pieces that could be chewed off and swallowed.  My cat, Tikka, has a particular passion for all dangly toys.  These are toys that have a long string or piece of material attached to a handle that you can tease your cat with and he can merrily stalk.

I also found some little plastic crosses that skimmed beautifully across the kitchen tiles and Tikka spends many a happy hour boxing them from one side of the room to the other.  However if you’re on a budget a toilet roll, a bunched piece of paper or a pine cone are just as entertaining!
