Keeping Cats Out of Your Garden

If you’re a keen gardener and either not a fan of cats or you would just prefer it if they would leave your flower beds alone there are some things you can do to discourage cats using your garden as a litter tray.

Vinegar – you can spray a vinegar-water solution around any plants that are acid loving

Orange peel – save any citrus peel and leave them around plants and shrubs.  Cats hate the scent of citrus and vinegar.  To make it go further mulch them and add water.

Rock garden – this is a low maintenance type of garden and any self respecting cat will not want to hurt his tender pads

Roses – Fill your garden with lovely roses

Barking Dog – record a dog barking and when you see a cat approach play it loudly.  You’ll need to keep it up and stay alert to catty visits but eventually it will pay off.

Water – There are devices available that connect to your hose and by using a motion sensor spray water when an animal is detected.

Be cat friendly – you can always opt to be a gracious host and provide a litter tray at the back of the garden.  Once the cat discovers this litter tray he’s sure to stay away from the rest of the garden.
