How do I stop my cat scratching the sofa?

Everyone who has a feline friend will know the problems associated with scratching. A simple stretch when getting off the sofa and your cushion is in tatters.

It’s impossible to stop scratching completely, but you can do some things to help. Make sure your cat knows where he or she is allowed to scratch. Use a scratching pad or pole and show your cat it’s theirs to do with what they will. Reward them when you see them scratching the pole. If you see your cat scratching a piece of furniture remove them from the furniture and take them to their scratching pole.

You get the idea…

The most difficult problems exist when your cat scratches a piece of furniture and you’re not there to take evasive action. There is little point showing the cat what to do when the horse has bolted. If a problem point exists, try putting fresh orange peel or lemon zest around the problem area for a few days to put the naughty moggy off.
