Persian Cat

Persian

Known as the quietest and least active of all the breeds, the Persian is also commonly known as the ‘Lounge Lizard.’ Additionally, this breed is the most likely to accept other cats into the home, although still remains territorial in an outside environment.

A common health problem with this breed is kidney disease but this can be scanned for regularly.

Being a long haired breed these cats can be prone to excessive matting of the fur, it is recommended that you do not try and cut the coat yourself but to allow a professional groomer or vet to do this.

Historically, the Persian is known for being a temple cat and a popular royal companion.

In more recent times, the Persian ’snowy white chinchilla’ breed became popular in the film versions of “You Only Live Twice” and “Diamonds are Forever.”

If you are looking for a serene, quiet and laid back cat then the Persian is probably for you; as long as you don’t mind the regular grooming required to maintain the coat of this long haired cat.

There are many rescue organisations specific to the Persian breed set up to home Persians that have been abandoned or lost and I would recommend these as the first point of call if you are looking to house your own Persian Pet.
