Get Green Fingered for Your Cat

We all know that there are plants that we should avoid around pet cats as they can be harmful or even poisonous.  However there are some plants that your kitty will purr with delight to see in the garden or house so much so they might forget about all your other ones!

So what do cats like about plants?  Well, to ensure you have a happy cat there are some basic needs you need to ensure you fulfill!  Cats love sniffing, playing and chewing and plants can help you to provide the means to give your cat opportunity to play out all three.

Sniffing

A cat’s sense of smell will go all a tingling if you plant herbs such as parsley, thyme and mint.  They are really enjoyable to a feline’s sense of smell and they might also enjoy a nibble of it!

Chewing

Cats love a good munch on grass so you’ll score major kitty points if you keep a couple of pots of grass seedlings in the garden or indeed in the house.  Alfalfa, wheat and rye are firm favourites.

Playing

Catnip is well known to get your cat all giddy and kittenish!  Some cats however don’t respond to this plant.  If this is the case try Valerian and let the frolics commence!

Grow plants in wide based pots to avoid any accidents and ideally place low to the ground in a sunny spot.

To save your other plants and avoid any upset tummies try hanging baskets.
