Feeding a Kitten
A little kitten needs special kitten food in order to develop healthily and grow at the right rate. There are plenty of kitten foods out there on the market but which one do you choose? What’s the difference between wet food and dry food? How much should you give them? And is there really any difference between adult and kitten food?
A cat needs a mixture of protein derived from meat, taurine, a mixture of vitamins, minerals and amino acids and finally water. Kittens however need these nutritional elements in larger quantities to fuel their development and give them all that kittenish energy.
When your kitten arrives it will initially be on four small meals a day. You can increase the amount as the kitten gets older and decrease the amount of servings. Just follow the recommendations on the packet of food. You’ll need to continue giving your kitten kitten food up to one year.
Nutritionally there is no difference between wet food and dry food except for the level of water content. If you choose to give your cat dry food, then you’ll need to ensure you leave plenty of fresh water available to them. The downside to wet food is the smell and also the need to take the food back up if the kitten leaves any straight away.
