Don’t Feed Cats Scraps

In the same way humans can be prone to allergies so can your pets.  Cats are particularly prone to allergies that affect the skin.  This can be caused by medications applied to skin and house plants.  However the most common allergies are related to food.

The allergies present themselves as rashes and hives on the skin.  These bumps and lesions can cause excessive itching and huge discomfort to your cat.  Poultry, chicken and diary foods are all common triggers to your cat’s skin.  Make sure you never feed your cat scraps of food from the table to avoid any possible allergic reactions.  Foods such as chocolate are toxic to your cat so please do not feed them any human treats.  You can buy chocolate alternatives that are suitable for cats if you feel this is necessary but please remember your cat is not human and therefore will not react well to human food.

Over the counter flea treatments can cause an allergic flare up so try to get your flea medication from the vet who will provide you one suitable for the cat and its size.  House plants can also be culprit particularly oily plants such as rubber plants.  Cats tend to rub up against plants and the secretions can aggravate their skin.
