Creating Cat Perches
There are numerous gimmicks out on the high street claiming to have understood the cat psyche enough to have designed a must-have piece of cat furniture that will enhance your feline friend’s life beyond measure. Hmmm….I’m not so sure that my cat Tikka is ever particularly impressed when I give in to the persuasive marketing of my local pet shop and excitedly unpack the latest cat perch for him to try out. I have now tried two different variations on the cat hammock and both times it has been openly and rudely snubbed.
I do agree though that cats love anything high up. Be it a shelf, the top of a wardrobe, shed roof or window ledge cats look comfortably smug in the knowledge they have a lofty view of the world away from slobbering dogs and pesky humans.
If you’re struggling to provide a perch for your cat try putting up a cat shelf. You don’t have to go out searching for one specifically manufactured for cats. A plain bog standard wooden shelf will do. Obviously don’t be tempted to then put ornaments on these shelves - they should be for the sole divine purpose of giving your kitty a elevated vantage point.
