Choosing Cat Food

When you first bring a little kitten home it can be a daunting task to decide which cat food to choose. There are a massive array of food brands and types offering different benefits to your kitty. As a kitten the choice isn’t quite as mind blowing. You have a choice between dry and wet food and the brands are a little straighter forward. I chose a premium brand that was recommended by my vet and have always stuck to it. Tikka likes the food…albeit only the chicken flavour…and we’ve never had any issues with his teeth or coat.

If you are really unsure, there are usually plenty of promotional items of cat food out there. Take advantage of any offers that allow you to try free samples. Sometimes you can get try-before-you-buy deals, and other times there are cheap “sampler packs” that contain several varieties and flavours of food for you to trial.

I chose dry food because I work in the day and wanted Tikka to be able to graze. With wet food it’s not advisable to leave the food down too long as it could go off and cause tummy issues. However both types will provide your cat with all the nutrients he needs. With wet food the water content is much higher so you won’t see your cat drinking as much water – however please do always put fresh water down for him. With dry food, a bowl of fresh water is a must! Your cat will quickly become dehydrated without it.

Just remember, don’t be afraid to make use of promotional items and offers to get to know the best solution for your needs.
