Catty Communication

Do you ever get the feeling your cat is trying to talk to you?  My cat Tikka is a very vocal creature and I swear he thinks I can understand his catty language.  With all that mewing and chirruping there must be some meaning to it all.  Sometimes I get it right, but other times I’m at a loss to know what my ginger friend is trying to say and we sit blinking at each other in joint frustration.

If you are to live in harmony with your feline friend you need to try and start to interpret all this vocalising.  The best way is to check out the body language that goes with it.  If your cat starts mewing and rubbing against your leg in the kitchen check that his water or food bowls aren’t empty.

If the chirruping is accompanied by scratching make sure the litter tray is clean.  Cats are fussy creatures and if it’s dirty they will get themselves into a pickle trying to let you know your litter tray hygiene is not up to standard.

Also take note of the tail.  A twitching tail can mean they are feeling playful to they are not in the best mood.  If Tikka isn’t in the mood for a loving session I can usually quickly tell by his swishing tail.  If I’m a bit slow on the uptake he’ll quickly follow that up with some claw treatment…ouch!
