Cats & Beds

When getting a cat for the first time you may be tempted to go rushing out and get a lovely plush expensive bed to welcome your new family member…however you may find that your cat prefers to sleep anywhere but in his new basket!  You’ll find him snoozing on the bed, on the couch, on the laundry basket…in fact anywhere the fancy takes him.

However I have had success with cat beds.  My first cat Tabitha was very partial to a cat igloo I bought her.  Initially she snubbed it and eyed it suspiciously.  However after brushing her I would leave a few hairs in the bed to try and get some of her scent on it and eventually that was her favourite hideaway.  Later I tried a furry pouch bed which was also popular with both my cats.

When my second cat and I moved to my parents for a short time Tikka didn’t have a bed. For a while before the move he’d preferred to lie on my bed.  However in his new abode he looked a little lost and unsettled so I bought a cheap fabric basket, plumped it up with blankets and set it down in a quiet corner of the dining room.  He loved it!  And to this day it’s his favourite place to chill out and snooze.  His second best place is to snuggle in between the folds of an unmade duvet!  I never have the heart to disturb him and wait until he’s had his nap before making the bed.
