Cat Grooming

In the hot summer months it’s as equally important to regularly groom your cat as it is in the winter months - particularly if your cat moults.  My cat Tikka, adores a good brushing session. Not only does it keep him looking svelte and his coat glossy but it cools him down on hot days.  I am always amazed at the amount of hair that can be collected from a decent amount of time spent brushing – you could fill a small cushion with it!

A major added benefit to you is that the more your brush your cat the less hair will get moulted onto your carpets and furnishings.  Removing animal hair can be very difficult and frustrating so the more hair you can remove yourself, the easier your life will be in the long run.

When choosing a brush seek the advice of your vet, breeder or the shop assistant if you are buying from a local pet store.  They will ask you questions about the cat breed and your cat’s coat so that you choose the correct brush.  A wide toothed comb can also be useful for long haired varieties to help untangled knots.

The best place to groom your cat is outside so that you can easily clean away any stray hairs.  However if this isn’t possible choose a flat smooth surface so that hairs can be brushed or vacuumed away quickly.
