Cat Fighting

My cat Tikka is something of a street scrapper.  I am forever catching him duffing up the local cats!  He just loves it.  He’s had a few war wounds too.  His most recent is a cut ear, but I’ve had to deal with many a scratch and bite in the past.  His constant conquests caused me to look into this cat behaviour to see if I just had a bad cat or this was normal in the cat world!

Apparently Tikka is quite normal!  The usual scenario for a cat fight is that a cat spots another rival cat on their turf.  I must admit I have only ever seen Tikka fighting in the garden which most definitely is his territory!  The cat defending his territory will make himself as tall as possible.  I’ve seen Tikka standing up on his hind legs and then using his forelegs to punch and scratch the offending cat.  The cat will make growling sounds.  When approaching the rival cat, he will menacingly stalk over making slow but sure movements.  This is when the territorial cat is weighing up his adversary and looking for any signs of attack.
If neither will back down they can be locked in a frozen stalemate position.  This can last for sometime until one of them backs down!
