Cat Abandoned with RSPCA so Owner Could Go on Holiday

I was very shocked recently to hear from a friend about a woman she knew who had dropped off her cat with the RSPCA because she was going on holiday!  The woman in question had owned a lovely white Persian cat for sometime and after asking friends to look after her without success decided the only solution was to claim she was a stray and hand her in at the RSPCA.  My friend was very upset as the cat in question was quite elderly and the chances of it finding a new home were unfortunately slim.

There is a massive rise in the number of cats and other pets that get abandoned when people go away on holiday.  When you choose to have a cat or any other animal for that matter you need to recognise that you are taking on full responsibility for that creature and that you can’t just pick and choose when you want to care for it.  Cats require ongoing care and a responsible owner will take steps to ensure there is adequate care provided to look after that animal when they go on holiday – otherwise you simply should not go away.  If that is an issue for you, DON’T get a cat.
