Brave Cats
You don’t often hear of cats saving someone or performing feats of bravery however I was pleased to find after a little searching that cats are positively little furry bundles of heroism! There are stories of them alerting their owners to gas leaks, floods and fire. Their heroism reaches true heights when it comes to protecting their kittens and they will push themselves to the limit to get them to a safe haven.
The first cat to receive decorations for courage and bravery was a small female tabby cat called Faith who lived around the time of the Second World War London bombings. She talked into St Augustine’s Church as a tiny stray kitten and took up residence. The Rector took her in to the Rectory which adjoined the church.
In the September of 1940 Faith had a kitten that was called Panda due to her black and white colouring. Faith suddenly became restless a while later and after searching all over the house relocated herself and her kitten to a room three floors below her usual room. The Rector kept trying to take them both back up and Faith steadfastly kept going back to her new place.
The blitz started three nights later and the Rector returned home to a mass of rubble. Although the firemen said there was little hope of finding Faith and her kitten alive her searched high and low. He called Faith and to his delight he heard a faint cry from within the ruins. There was Faith unafraid eyes and her kitten safely between her paws. He dug the pair out and both were unharmed if a little bedraggled.
