Arthritis
Arthritis is not a slowly human condition. Your kitty can develop this illness as it gets older. Its not necessarily something you’ll be able to find a cure for but there are several treatments out there to keep your cat more comfortable and mobile. Although cats are naturally athletic, nimble creatures the everyday wear and tear on joints and ligaments can take its toll. However their agility, balance and ability to land gracefully on their feet means that joints problem are greatly reduced in comparison to their canine friends.
Arthritis is inflammation of the joints and symptoms can range from stiffness, not putting pressure on a limb, limping, reluctance to climb, pain, altered gait, nervousness, depression and aggression. If you notice changes in your cat take him or her to the vets immediately.
Your cat can suffer from either traumatic arthritis or osteoarthritis. Traumatic arthritis is caused due to physical stress on the joints cause by old age, accidents or injury.
Osteoarthritis is thought to be a joint failure caused by repeated trauma, dislocation of joints or fractures.
Treatments include supplementing Glucosamine, Chondroitin and Vitamin C. Drugs prescribed are anti-inflammatory drugs and corticosteroids. In addition to this massage, a change in diet, applying heat and exercise can alleviate symptoms.
