Anxious Cats
There can be times when your cat becomes anxious and will display some very odd catty behaviour. Anxiety can be triggered by any number of things that may stress your cat. One of the main ones is when a cat feel territorially threatened. I had a phase with Tikka, my ginger cat, when we very first moved to my new home. He began spraying around his cat flap. The kitchen smelt strongly of cat urine and I couldn’t understand what the problem could be as in the previous house he’d never displayed any of this behaviour. A few days later I realised what was wrong. A local cat was managing to open the cat flap and get into the kitchen. Obviously this will send your cat into a stressed state as his home is his safe haven. I sorted out the cat flap and we didn’t have any further instances.
My neighbour experienced cat stress when her young female cat, Cleo, was attacked by a larger cat. She started to crawl along the floor and make strange mewing sounds. The attack has frightened her so much she wouldn’t leave the house. The vet gave my neighbour a pheromone plug-in which she only needed to use for a few days and Cleo was back to her normal self.
