Afraid of Other Cats
I’ve never suffered from this problem with my own cat, but a very common problem for cat owners is when their cat is very fearful f a neighbouring cat. When cats are within a small area this can easily lead to confrontation as they are so territorial. The types of behaviour that you can expect are cat fights leading to injuries from bites and scratches and also urine spraying in an attempt to mark the territory. However another common response is that the cat becomes anxious and nervous. This can mean that they won’t go outside. This can lead to other types of behaviour such as urinating inside, being clingy or aggressive. It can also lead to over-feeding or over-grooming.
t can be a challenge to keep other cats out of your garden. Cats don’t conform to out garden boundaries and may feel that they are well within their own territory in your garden. If you get on well with the owner of the other cat then you can try to arrange certain times when the cats have the run of the garden – a timeshare type system.
Provide cover for the cat when they are leaving the cat flap. Putting some potted plants next to the opening will provide them with enough protection so that they feel secure. If this doesn’t help then for a time close off the cat flap as this will make your cat feel more secure. If this is the case make time to play with your cat so he is entertained.
