Everyone who has a feline friend will know the problems associated with scratching. A simple stretch when getting off the sofa and your cushion is in tatters.
It’s impossible to stop scratching completely, but you can do some things to help. Make sure your cat knows where he or she is allowed to scratch. Use a scratching pad or pole and show your cat it’s theirs to do with what they will. Reward them when you see them scratching the pole. If you see your cat scratching a piece of furniture remove them from the furniture and take them to their scratching pole.
You get the idea…
The most difficult problems exist when your cat scratches a piece of furniture and you’re not there to take evasive action. There is little point showing the cat what to do when the horse has bolted. If a problem point exists, try putting fresh orange peel or lemon zest around the problem area for a few days to put the naughty moggy off.

We all know that cats moult; well the normal ones do anyway. And this can be a problem, especially for the house proud cat owner who doesn’t want their guests to be covered in cat hair. Moulting can be solved to some degree by brushing your feline friend every day and disposing of the excess hair in the bin. But how do you get rid of the hair which accumulates on the sofa or on your favourite armchair?
Serious moulting from moggies needs to be given the vacuum treatment, but smaller hair loss events can be collected using a sticky clothes roller. These can be bought from most supermarkets and are in essence just some sticky tape fixed around a cylindrical roller to which the hair attaches when rolled across by said roller.
Car hair problems solved.

Unless you want your cat to pester you for weeks on end that is.
You’d think that cats would not be too bothered about what they eat. You’d think they’d like a little variety. No. They wouldn’t.
Every cat owner has been enticed by the cat food that is currently on offer on the supermarket shelves. We’ve all bought a pack only to take it home for our feline friend to turn its nose up at it. We wait. We try again a week later. No go. We wait for a month. The food is a little whiffy but we give it a go. No luck, the cat knows what it wants and it’s not that cheap food. The cat food is eventually thrown away a few months later when the flies become unbearable.

All cat owners will know that a cat will do what it wants when it want to do it. You have no say in what your cats does except put up with its idiosyncrasies. What you can do however is learn to read your cat’s behaviour and act to divert a problem. Over the next few articles we’ll discuss some all-too-common scenarios and tell you what you can do to stop them.
You’re tying your shoelaces and the cat wants to play with them
This can end up being rather nasty. especially when you’re in a rush on the way out to work. Only you know your cat so only you know your cats reaction. Is your cat liable to jump out of the way when you pull your lace away or is it likely to excite the feline into a frenzy that will only be solved with a number of stitches and a bruised ego?
If your cat is liable to get over excited the best thing to do is nothing. You had best just sit it out and wait. Your cat will soon realise it’s hungry and move to the food bowl. While you have the chance tie your laces quickly and get to work in time for lunch

As the cold snap has hit virtually ALL the country and covered it in a lovely white blanket of snow, here are my top tips for looking after your dog in the winter!
· Get some bootees for your dog for walks. The salt and de-icer on the roads and paths can hurt their paws so protect as best you can
· Winter coat – short haired dogs will get cold so I advise buying a coat or a jumper for your little pooch.
· Regular brushing, washing and trimming is a must throughout the year and it doesn’t matter what hair type there are either
· Indulge them! Everyone needs a bit of pampering – even your dog!

Stuck for ideas for your dog’s Christmas present this year then why not send him / her to a doggy day spa! Not only will your dog really enjoy it but he / she will look all fabulous and spruced but for Christmas when people come calling to wish you Merry Christmas! My dog came back from the spa with a nicely washed and trimmed coat, paw fur trimmed, nails clipped, tail shaped and styled and teeth cleaned. He looked dazzling and smelt lovely! I was really impressed with the work the stylists did and would definitely recommend a doggy day spa for your dog.

Now I know a dog is for life not just for Christmas but I really really want a friend for my dog! I would love to open all my presents on Christmas day and then have my partner pop out of the room and come back with a huge present and inside is a lovely new puppy! You know just like on the American Christmas films! However we did get our first dog from a rescue centre and we chose him together so I think if we ever got a new dog it would be chosen in the same way! And I do urge you to get your dog from a dogs home – sometimes they can be a bit troubled and hard to train at first but rescue centres do a really good job and they need our support – especially in the winter when more money is needed for heating and blankets etc.

I really really want to dress my dog in fancy dress and take a photo and use it as the image for my Christmas cards this year. However everyone I have asked has very mixed opinions on this! My dog wears a coat when it is cold anyway as he is only small and gets cold easily so I don’t think popping a hat on him for a few seconds would hurt!
I have seen people do it before but I’m not sure whether they have photo shopped theirs?

I went to have the new beauty treatment which involves you putting your feet in a tank of fish who then suck at all the dead skin and remove it on Saturday and I must say it was a bit freaky at first but when you get used to them it is actually quite relaxing…
It cost me £10 for 15 minutes and it is meant to be the latest beauty treatment to sweep across the UK and there is even a whole shop of them in the Trafford Centre in Manchester.
It looks strange when you go in but I would highly recommend it for men and women to go..
